The Will W. Neil Collection Specimen

Both sides of this 1862 Civil War date Proof silver dollar are beautifully toned in shades of medium gray and darker reddish-gold over exceptional surfaces for a proof coin struck over 150 years ago. There is much electric blue toning framing Liberty and the Eagle. The photo doesn't do this coin justice (e-mail or call me for a photo that shows the color a little better but has some glare to it as we had to tilt the coin to get the color to show in the photo).
This coin was sold on June 17, 1947 as Lot 506 in B. Max Mehl's The Will W. Neil Collection Sale, where described as, "1826 Brilliant Proof. Catalogs $12.50." The Mehl 2X2 envelope is included with this lot. This is a premium coin for the grade.
