1840 $2.50 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle PCGS XF40 (CAC)

1840 was the first year of issue for the new Liberty Head Type $2.50 gold coin. PCGS CoinFacts estimates there are "fewer than 100 examples known for the date." PCGS has only graded six examples in Mint State grades and 19 in Mint State; CAC has only approved 8 examples in all grades.

This example appears to be an above average strike for the date with excellent surfaces for the grade.  The eye appeal and color are also above average. CAC Approved.
