This Capped Bust Dime is well struck and has exceptionally attractive eye appeal, toning and color. 1836 dimes appear much less frequently than the earlier 1830s small size dimes.
This coin is struck from the JR-1 die marriage, one of only three die marriages known for 1836 Dimes.. The latest JRCS Dime Census shows only three examples in Mint State grades, with only one in AU58, the Kirk Gorman Specimen which has changed hands since the Census was published.
In my fixed price list sale of the Gorman CB Dime Reference Collection sale an 1836 dime in PCGS AU58 was sold for $1,200 with "multiple orders" and was resold later for a higher price to another collector. Desirable PCGS AU58 grade, with CAC Approval.
