1830 Capped Bust Half Dime LM-1.1 Remarriage, R-7 H10C NGC MS65PL (CAC)
Prooflike
CAC Approved
The R-6 rarity rating assigned to this remarriage in the 2015 JRCS Half Dime Census is a conservative estimate, especially when one considers that it takes to accurately attribute this remarriage. In Volume 22 / Issue 2 (August 2012) of the John Reich Journal, Richard Meaney wrote, "Is it Time for a New Remarriage Chart for Capped Bust Half Dime Reverse G?" In the article the author emphasized the importance of a coin of high enough grade (AU or better, typically) to allow one to discern between the 1830 LM-1.1 and the 1830 LM-1.2 remarriages. Specifically, one must ensure that no clashes are present on the reverse to properly attribute the coin as LM-1.1. There were only four reported 1830 LM-1.1 half dimes in the 2015 JRCS Census that were graded AU or better, including this one. Most experts today considner this remarriage R-7.
This specimen graded NGC MS65 PL (CAC) is the highest graded 1830 LM-1.1. Lustrous medium gray and silver toning cover both sides of this coin.
