1819 25C B-3 Small 9 Capped Bust Quarter PCGS AU50

The 1819 Small 9 Quarter is both a Red Book and PCGS Registry Set Type Coin. Although a relatively common die marriage, it is offered only infrequently at public auction in AU and MS grades. Only one example has been offered at auction in the PCGS AU50 grade in the last 15 or so years.  This coin was purchased from a long time collector of the Capped Bust Quarters by die marriage.

The doubliing of the 5 in 25C on the reverse can be clearly seen, and there are two periods after the 25C, almost forming a colon.

This example is attractive for the grade.  It is toned a light to medium gray on both sides, with darker toning at the edges.  There is ample lustre for the grade.
