1818 25C B-6, R-4+ Capped Bust Quarter PCGS VF30
Very Late Die State b
Despite the PCGS VF30 grade this coin ranks among the top 14 examples listed in the Early Quarter Dollars of the United States Mint 1796-1838. There are only two examples of this R-4+ die marriage graded in Mint State, three in AU grades, and only three in XF. This is a tough die marriage to locate, and this one is struck from the desirable late die state b with a number of heavy die cracks on the reverse. The die state on this coin appears to be a close match to the quarter book plate coin from the Denis Loring Collection - you can see the striking weakness on the eagle on both the plate coin (NGC AU58) and this specimen (PCGS VF30).
This coin was purchased from a long time JRCS collector. It has very nice eye appeal and original color and is toned a deep medium gray and blue with touches of darker gold mixed in.
