One of the Two Finest Known Examples
The Bowers Plate Coin
This is a very rare die marriage, and is one of the two highest graded examples known to me. The upper right star on the obverse is close to the star position on 1804 Dollars. As a result, this die marriage has been used more than once in creating 1804 dated dollars (altered dates). This die marriage was unknown to Haseltine in 1881. Most examples come in very low grades, with a VF-20 example included in the lower end of the Condition Census! In addition, this coin has very nice toning and eye appeal. An important coin and a highlight of the 169 Dollars in the Miller Collection. It has been off the market for almost two decades.
