Horizontal Die Crack Bisecting Reverse

This is a popular die marriage due to the neat die crack that bisects the reverse from 9:00 to 3:00. The obverse on this marriage always comes weakly stuck relative to the reverse, is slightly "dull," and always grades at least five points less than the reverse. No Mint State examples are known, and the finest known examples of the die marriage grade AU50. This specimen is graded PCGS VF25. I would grade the obverse of this example as "at least VF30" and the reverse as XF45. It is toned a nice light to medium gray on both sides, with traces of lustre visible in the protected areas. To see any lustre on an early dollar graded VF is highly unusual.
