1798 10C Large 8 JR-4 Draped Bust Dime PCGS XF45 (CAC)
CAC Approved
This is a beautiful example of a rare and seldom offered date and type coin. The last appearance at auction of an example of the 1798 Large 8 Draped Bust, Large Eagle dime was August 2013 where Heritage sold an example in PCGS XF45 (no CAC) for $$6,463.00. Despite the R-3 rarity rating there have been no examples sold (graded by PCGS) at public auction since 2013 in grades from PCGS VF30 to PCGS AU58!
This specimen has great eye appeal and color, with a generous amount of lustre for the PCGS XF45 grade. Some might say that this coin has claims to AU. The surfaces appear semi-prooflike when the coin is rotated under a light. It is toned an attractive medium gray (with some blue) on both sides, with more of a lustrous gold and gray at the peripherals on both sides. There are no visible marks at "arm's length," with only a couple of very light scratches noted on the obverse under a glass, and the reverse is virtually perfect for the grade. This coin is CAC Approved, and is the only example graded XF45 CAC from either grading service.
