1795 50C Flowing Hair Half Dollar O-119, R-4 PCGS VF35 (CAC)
This 1795 Flowing Hair 2 Leaves Half Dollar has outstanding color and eye appeal.
Both sides of this beautiful coin are toned in attractive shades of medium gray and blue, with a fair amount of lustre (for a VF graded coin) still visible. Some light adjustment marks on the obverse are visible with a glass. This coin is CAC approved (CAC has only stickered one 1795 FH 2 Leaves Half Dollar from either grading service, and only 9 1795 Half Dollars total).
This is an R-4 die marriage, with choice examples somewhat scarce at this grade level. Steve Herrman's AMBPR lists two examples in PCGS VF35 (not CAC), one which realized $7,475 and another $6,325, both in 2009. An example graded PCGS VF30 "that looks XF40" realized a strong $10,350 in a Stack's sale in 2008. A PCGS XF40 example realized $7,475 in 2012. None of these examples were CAC approved. We also note that the price of a 1795 FH Half Dollar virtually doubles in XF40, and this example is so close....
