This is both a rare Carson City Dollar and a neat die variety with the Doubled Die Reverse. Strong doubling can be seen on the reverse at the tip of the right (facing) eagle's wing, under the eagle's neck and beak, at E. PLURIBUS UNUM in the motto, and with an "extra branch" that can be seen above (the word) FINE!
PCGS has graded only six non-doubled die 1876-CC Dollars in AU58, none in AU58+, and only two Double Die examples in AU58. PCGS Price for an AU58 is $4,750, and for an AU58+ $5,800. Mint State examples are $10,000 and up. Only two AU58 examples have received CAC approval, this and one other that resides in a PCGS Registry Set.
This coin likely didn't circulate and if it did, only for an instant. Cartwheel lustre is visible on both sides over virtually mark free surfaces. Both sides are attractively toned in light to medium shads of gray and gold. All in all an exceptional coin for the grade.
