This is a very rare die marriage and is a conditionally rare and important PCGS Registry and Red Book Type Coin. The Small Date, Small Letters Dollar is known in two die marriages, this and 1796 B-1, BB-66. There are only two examples known in Mint State grades, one for each die marriage, both having sold for mid six-figure prices when offered at public auction. The Warren Miller collection had one example of each die marriage, one graded PCGS XF45 and the other graded PCGS AU53. - both coins have sold for prices in the $25-30,000 range, a premium over the PCGS price for the type.
This coin is toned in a deep gray on both sides, with blue toning mixed in on the obverse. Surfaces are above average for the grade.
